Effects of Play-Based Early Stimulation in Children from Rural Low-Income Households on Self-Regulation and Executive Functioning Skills: A Randomized Controlled Trial

BRAC Institute of Educational Development (BIED) will improve the self-regulation and executive functioning skills of children ages 2 to 3 from low income households in rural areas of Bangladesh by educating mothers through group sessions on playful engagement with their children. By studying the effectiveness of early stimulation, through a randomized controlled trial, the results will provide significant insight into and shape future interventions in the field of early childhood development. Even though the family faces numerous hardships and stress caused by lack of resources, the play based parenting for early stimulation of the child can bring about positive outcomes even in challenging circumstances with its design aimed towards a low-cost intervention that is affordable, available, acceptable and accessible.
