Training approaches relying on conventional models are limited to large, group-based training requiring health workers to leave their sites for long periods. Jhpiego and Laerdal Global Health will address these challenges by demonstrating the efficacy and potential of a new PPIUD simulation model and a self-paced, blended learning approach through field-testing among trainers, providers and clients at facilities in Pakistan in collaboration with key stakeholders. The project will: 1) field-test a PPIUD simulation model prototype designed to be low-cost, light weight and more realistic of the postpartum anatomy than current training models (technology); 2) introduce a dynamic training approach that allows providers to take models back to their facilities for self-paced, on-the-job practice and improve the quality of PPIUD insertion (service delivery); and 3) increase awareness of the PPIUD's benefits among clients and their families (demand creation).
