Sanivation is a Kenya-based social enterprise which deploys waste processing systems for non-sewered urban communities to cost-effectively manage, treats and converts fecal sludge into a reusable waste product, charcoal briquettes for which there is high demand in the region. In communities that require a full sanitation solution, Sanivation also provides services to cater to the entire value chain, including the installation of toilets in households. Additional TTS funding of $710,000 ($210,000 grant; $500,000 revenue-based loan) from GCC for its TTS3 phase over a 2-year period will enable Sanivation to reach 86,000 people that will benefit directly from the removal of fecal sludge from their own households, expand waste processing services to 2 additional municipalities and 4 refugee camps and continue to have positive environmental impact by offsetting charcoal (derived from trees) consumption, and diverting fecal sludge from the local water supply to safe waste processing.
