A Biodegradable Mosquito Trap to Reduce Transmission of Zika

Autom River Inc. is a Canadian start-up that developed a 100% bio-based compostable bin (the Greenlid) for kitchen food waste and are translating this technology to create a biodegradable mosquito trap (BMT), impregnated with insecticide, that kills both eggs and adult mosquitos. An investment of $1M in TTS funding from GCC will; (1) support the development of a version of BMT that is suitable for deployment in developing countries, (2) perform true in-field, proof-of-scalability BMT trials (in Brazil, Colombia and Indonesia) necessary to establish a credible evidence base and to subsequently register their product in those markets, and (3) use the data from both the lab and field trials, to develop quality control protocols for their manufacturing facility in Canada to ensure all BMT containers are made and coated evenly with insecticide, followed by shelf-life stability testing to determine the maximum time the containers can be stored for.
