Home Decoration for Malaria Control

Med Biotech is a research-focused NGO based in Kampala, Uganda that has developed Home Decoration for Malaria Control (HD4MC). HD4MC adapts the customary practice of plastering the walls of mud-walled homes with soil by mixing WHO-approved insecticide into the soil and using this insecticide-mixed soil to plaster walls for household vector control. . The IC has recommended TTS funding of up to $1,000,000 CAD, the initial portion of which ($308,200), along with the GIF-matched investment, will be used for field testing to assess the safety and efficacy of HD4MC which will enroll 420 households and an estimated 2100 people across ten villages in Abedi Parish in Northern Uganda. This will allow Med Biotech to generate critical data to support the use of HD4MC for vector control and malaria transmission, which in turn will be used to support the eventual scale-up of this innovation
