The implications of mental health challenges in children and youth not being addressed early are exaggerated in under resourced contexts, often leading to catastrophic outcomes for those growing up in communities surrounded by gang related crime and violence. There is therefore an urgent need to scale cost effective, community based preventive interventions for children and young people to open up access to uninsured populations at huge risk of developing mental health disorders. W4C offers a ‘blueprint’ model for sport-therapy interventions to be embedded within communities, utilizing a task-shifting approach by up-skilling less specialized, community based Coaches to increase capacity and mental health coverage within a constrained budget.
